Set beneath a striking vaulted ceiling and filled with natural light, our Merlyn Kitchen Waterford was designed as a calm, architectural space where handcrafted cabinetry and carefully chosen materials work in quiet harmony.
The in-frame cabinetry is painted in Paint & Paper Library’s Kigali, a deep, sophisticated tone that brings richness and presence to the room. This bold colour anchors the space beautifully, creating a strong furniture feel against the soft, neutral backdrop while enhancing the clean lines and symmetry of the overall design.
Light quartz worktops provide a crisp contrast to the cabinetry, while the warmth of the solid timber dining table introduces a natural, tactile element that makes the space feel welcoming and lived in.
A full-height run of cabinetry houses the main working appliances, allowing the rest of the kitchen to remain uncluttered and refined.
At the centre, the island acts as the natural gathering point, a place for preparation, dining and everyday moments. Its generous scale connects the functional side of the kitchen with the dining area, making it as practical as it is sociable.
Brass hardware and tapware introduce warmth and a subtle highlight against the painted finish.
This bespoke glazed wall cabinet introduces a beautiful furniture detail to the elevation.
Painted to match the surrounding cabinetry and finished with antique-effect glass, it provides a softly lit display space while maintaining the strong architectural lines of the kitchen. Positioned beside the window, it brings both balance and a sense of quiet elegance to this corner of the room.
The prep area is centred around a striking undermounted black sink, paired with a satin brass tap for a warm contrast against the light quartz worktop. Clean, simple and highly functional, this combination creates a dedicated workspace while echoing the material palette used throughout the kitchen.
"Delighted with our kitchen and utility. David and his team are a pleasure to deal with. Really responsive communication and great design ideas and craftsmanship - highly recommend." - Sarah Harney
The modern kitchen is no longer just a working space, it is a carefully planned environment, and the walk-in pantry has become one of the most requested elements by both homeowners and architects. At the Merlyn Kitchen, we designed a concealed pantry that integrates seamlessly into the main cabinetry, maintaining clean lines while revealing a highly functional room behind.
From the outside, the pantry is completely hidden within the tall run. A signature 44mm thick, cabinet-matched door gives the weight and stability of a piece of furniture rather than a standard internal door. Finished with a profiled skirting that continues through from the main kitchen, the elevation reads as one uninterrupted composition, preserving the symmetry of the space.
Once opened, the room transforms into a warm and practical storage area. Internally, natural timber shelving wraps the walls, bringing contrast to the deep painted cabinetry and creating a softer, more tactile working environment. Generous worktop space allows for small appliances to be housed neatly out of sight, keeping the main kitchen calm and uncluttered.
Integrated lighting ensures that everything is easily visible, while the L-shaped layout maximises storage without compromising movement within the space.
This hidden transition, from formal, furniture-style kitchen to a highly functional working pantry, is one of the details that makes this project so special. It allows the everyday elements of family life to remain close at hand, yet completely out of view.
